Foodie Festival at the Special Collections

Exclusive day packed with culinary events on 18 January

On 18 January, the Special Collections of the University of Amsterdam is hosting the Foodie Festival, with a wide range of events on the theme of gastronomy and cookery books.

foodie-festivalVisitors can expect all kinds of activities, such as a lecture, an interview, a book-signing session, exhibitions and a pop-up store selling cookery books. The documentary De keuken van Johannes, about culinary journalist Johannes van Dam, by Bianca Tan will also be shown.

Only 100 tickets are available, with a discount for participants in the special offer by Het Parool.

Programme

The programme on Saturday 18 January is as follows:

  • 11:00 Welcome with coffee
  • 11:30–12:15 Louise O. Fresco in discussion with Harold McGee, winner of the Johannes van Dam Prize 2013 (in English)
  • 12:15–12:30 Book-signing session
  • 12:30–13:30 Showing of documentary De keuken van Johannes
  • 13:45–14:15 Lecture by the winner of the Joop Witteveen Prize 2013 (in English)
  • 14:15–14:30 Short break with refreshments (soft drink)
  • 14:30–15:30 Showing of documentary De keuken van Johannes
  • 15:30 Programme ends

Throughout the day (12:30–16:30): exhibition with treasures from Johannes van Dam in the Gastronomic Library collection and the Vrij Nederland Cookery Book Top 40, exhibition on the winners of the Johannes van Dam Prize and the Joop Witteveen Prize.

Visitors to the Foodie Festival are welcome to stay on for the presentation of the book The Essence of Gastronomy by Peter Klosse (16:00–17:30, doors open 15:30).

Tickets

Tickets for the Foodie Festival at the Special Collections are valid for all the activities above. Visitors to the festival also receive a special themed issue ‘Eten & Boeken’ from De Boekenwereld (worth €12.50). Participants in the special offer by Het Parool pay €17.50 per ticket, the standard ticket price is €25. Tickets are available via the webshop of the Special Collections.
