Gaston Franssen


Dr. Gaston Franssen is assistant professor at the Dutch Studies department of the University of Amsterdam. His research interests include literary culture, literary celebrity and constructions of popular and cultural taste. He was co-editor of Celebrity Authorship and Afterlives in English and American Literature (Palgrave Macmillan 2016) and Idolizing Authorship: Literary Celebrity and the Construction of Identity (Amsterdam University Press 2017). More recently, his interest in constructions of national self-images resulted in the co-authored article ‘The Dutch Star on the Flag of Europa: The Personalization of National Identity in Geert Wilders’ Celebrity Politics’, in Celebrity Studies (forthcoming April 2017).
