Mariëlla Beukers graduated in Medieval Sciences at the University of Utrecht in 1986. In 2010 she became ‘Register Vinoloog van de Wijnacademie’, a vocational training aimed at delivering wine professionals. Next to her work as wine writer and as communications professional in several Dutch museums, she has done research into the history of the medieval wine trade in Utrecht and wrote several articles on the history of modern-day wine merchants. She published a book about wine-making in the Netherlands (Wijn van eigen bodem, 2015), and is currently working on a book about the relationship of the Dutch and wine (scheduled for 2016), from Roman times until the 20th century. Among the topics of the latter book will be vine growing, trade and consumption.
