Tessel Bauduin


Dr. Tessel M. Bauduin is Postdoctoral Research Associate and Lecturer in Modern & Contemporary Art History at the University of Amsterdam. Her monograph on Surrealism and the Occult was published in 2014. A laureate of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research’s VI-programme for excellence in research, dr. Bauduin’s study the reception of Old Masters in Surrealism will come out in 2019.
Dr. Bauduin has co-edited two published volumes: Surrealism, Occultism and Politics (with Ferentinou & Zamani, Routledge 2017) and The Occult in Modernist Art, Literature and Cinema (with Johnsson, Palgrave, 2018). Out soon is a special issue of the Journal of Art Historiography on The Canonisation of Modernism (co-edited with Langfeld; winter 2018) and the co-edited volume Gothic Modernisms (Lang, 2019). Dr. Bauduin has further published (in several languages) on modern art and occultism, occult art, surrealist exhibitions, automatism, Hieronymus Bosch as surrealist, and surrealist medievalism, among other topics. Publications on Surrealism are forthcoming in The International Encyclopaedia of Surrealism (Bloomsbury 2019) and on Af Klint for the upcoming Guggenheim show Hilma af Klint: Paintings for the Future (2018-19).
